Concord Peace Vigil

Beginning November 28, 2025, The Concord Peace Vigil will go on winter hiatus, returning when Daylight Savings Time starts in the Spring, 2026 for our 35th year.

During the winter hiatus, members will continue as usual to meet for coffee on Fridays, 9 am, at the Main Street Cafe.

Since 1991, members of the Concord Peace Vigil have held a banner and walked in Monument Square around the flagpole. The banner says “We walk with all who suffer because of war.” We met one Friday a month from 8 to 9 am over the years 1991 through 2001. After the start of the US Government war in Afghanistan in late 2001, Vigil members decided to meet every week, weather permitting, still on Fridays from 8 to 9 am, and have continued to the present time. We are not a club and welcome any who wishes to join us, even for a short time. We appreciate the positive messages many of you have signaled as you drive by.

2024 is our 33rd year. We all are older (and wiser). For health and safety reasons we now suspend the vigil during the winter months. The weekly discussion at the Main Street Cafe will continue during the winter. Join us to discuss current events. The war in Afghanistan, the longest active war in our nation’s history, is finally over. 20 years and we continue to remind the people who read our banner that war effects everyone. We do not  recruit walkers but everyone is welcome to walk. Many of the original vigil walkers are no longer with us. If you drive by and wish to stop for ‘laps around the pole,’ please do so. A quick wave or thumbs up is also appreciated. We end shortly before 9am and reconvene at the Main Street Cafe on Main Street, Concord. The discussions are lively and the participants friendly.

The Concord Peace Vigil has been on Winter Hiatus since Thanksgiving 2023. We hope to return to the Concord MA flagpole on March 15, 2024, our 33rd year. The world certainly is not a peaceful place. Politics and politicians seem to believe that wars can be won no matter what the cost. When Putin was interviewed by ex-Fox interviewer Hunter Carlson, he clearly stated he is willing to negotiate, over Ukraine and NATO, although on his own terms. It was minimally reported. Venezula’s Maduro has massed his army on the border to Guyana in order to seize that country’s fast oil resources. It is barely noticed. We plan to fund our allies in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan with $100+ Billion while the space program at JPL is laying off 530 Mars probe employees.

Join us March 15th 8am at the flagpole in Concord MA to march and discuss politics afterward at the Main Street Cafe from 9am to 10pm
